This illustration was made for an art book along with other artists, each one representing a popular phrase for their respective country. I chose “hasta la madre”, a common expression used in Mexico, which could mean different things, but mainly is used when someone is tired or frustrated about a particular event or situation (like the fish trying to escape from the crowded bowl of fish).

Madre also means “mother”, and the Guadalupe Virgin is considered “the mother of Mexicans”, represented in this image.
